Description Measurements My Address   SOLD! 4/4 Old German cello 'Vitali' Stradvari model Made in Germany 1957 This older German blond cello came to me from the original owner who bought this cello new back in 1957 here in Santa Barbara from a luthier who is no longer around. She still had the original receipt and told me her cello teacher had helped select this cello for her. It is solid carved from relativey plain maple back and sides and a nice broad grained spruce top plate. It is in very good condition structurally and has some scratches on one rib from the gig bag zipper she stored it in. Other than that cosmetic issue, it is fine. I had to replace the pegs which were in bad shape from years of chalk being applied to them as well as a new bridge, strings, tailpiece and endpin. It has a very even, warm and pleasing tone with no wolf tone issues. The A string is rich not strident, midrange is balanced and the C is chocolaty. This old cello is very forgiving and its years are a great benefit to the tone. I'm sure this was considered a mid level student cello at the time. It will outplay most everything new in this price range. If you are looking for an affordable, buttery sounding cello and don't mind her showing a few years, this may be the right cello for you.
