A good choice for beginning to intermediate student. This old restored 3/4 size cello came to me in pieces. This old cello is labeled 'made in Czechoslovakia.' but I believe that it is a later Juzek made in the 1950s or 60s. Many were sent over to be used in the New York public schools and I believe this is one of those public school cellos.

    I find the older Juzeks have a very mellow, dark tone and this one seems very even and super easy to play. There are plenty of surface scratches and signs of wear. It has had two repairs to the top plate above and below the treble F-hole. These repairs were done before I recieved it, but no repairs to the neck, back or ribs. The repaired cracks on the top are not in the soundpost area. I repaired some edging and reglued the top and fingerboard replaced a missing nut, closed up a seam in the back and did some touch-ups.

    This is an excellent choice if your trying to find a good sounding older cello. You can't beat the old seasoned wood for tonal color. This cello has no harshness to it and has great resonance and volume. I have it set-up with a New Harmony carbon fiber endpin and fitting, a Wittner tailpiece with built-in fine tuners, a new set of 3/4 Evah Pirazzi strings, a new bridge cut low for ease of playing and a new soundpost. It is ready to play and should beat the socks of any new cello in this price range. Looks aren't everything especially when it comes to string instruments. This is a great sounding cello and the existing repairs are guaranteed for the life of the cello.
