Frederich Wyss

4/4 cello 2009, Stradivari

Nice dark sound with a complex voice and great balance.  This Wyss has just the right amount of resistance that provides nuance and power. It has a warm, lush voice that reminds me of an old Italian cello. This cello being oil varnished will develop and improve as the varnish cures and hardens over the next year or so.   This is an advanced player's cello. It has a lot to offer, but isn't going to give it unless you have experience and know how to pull it out.

This is one of the recent selections from the NAMM show. The hand applied oil varnish is nicely antiqued and the back flaming is subtle, typical of European tonewoods. Once again I was more focused on making my selection base on tonal qualities.
